The Golden Bears came into the contest as three touchdown favorites and they didn’t disappoint the gathering ‘down under’ as senior transfer quarterback Davis Webb showed why his an NFL prospect with an outstanding. The former Texas Tech signal caller completed 37 of 53 passes for 436 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Cal came into the contest without their top six leading wide receivers form last year, but appear to have found a weapon in junior Chad Hansen who made a big impact in the contest with 14 receptions for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Melquise Kemontai Stovall had 4 catches for 61 yards and a score as the Bears had little trouble moving the ball through the air against their Mountain West foe.
The running game was also solid as Khalfani Muhammad made the most of his 10 carries, running for 96 yards and a score. Backup Vic Enwere added 65 yards and Tre Watson rushed for 33 yards as the Bears totaled over 600 yards on offense.
Hawaii came into the contest with questions at quarterback, but Ikaika Woolsey was solid, completing 17 of 34 passes for 234 yards and one touchdown. The Rainbow Warriors figured to be strong on the ground behind an experienced offensive line, but the surprise was Diocemy Saint Juste, who missed all of last season with an injury, burst onto the college football scene with 118 yards on just 14 carries and a score.
It won’t get an easier for the Hawaii football squad as they headed straight back home after the game, only to hit the road again next week as they travel to Ann Arbor to face a strong Michigan team. The Golden Bears will head home and get some rest as they don’t play next weekend, but travel south to face San Diego State on September 11.
