There’s no question the team needs a solid signal caller as making the NFL Playoffs with a backup is terribly difficult, which has led to several rumors over the last few weeks that the front office could make a trade to help strengthen the position.
Nick Foles is on the outs with the LA Rams after his poor play last year, but the former University of Arizona star didn’t have much help in his first year with the organization. Experts believe a change of scenery could jump start his career, especially if a team with some skilled position players acquires the young man.
The 27-year-old was fantastic in his first three years in the league with Philadelphia, completing over 60 percent of his passes and a touchdown to interception ratio of 46-17, but after a trade to the Rams, his game fell off last year with more turnovers than touchdowns and a loss of accuracy.
The Jets have a solid group of wide receivers and a solid running game, and the front office is looking for someone to guide this group and show some leadership. Foles has shown those skills when given the opportunity, with good players around him; and with another chance, he could prove that 2015 was just one of those years.
NFL trades at this time of year aren’t usually big news, but for New York, it could prove the difference between making the playoffs and watching from home in January. The front office needs to get the right quarterback under center and if that means making a trade now, they need to pull the trigger and give the franchise its best chance to win football games in 2016.
