Vincent Frank of Yard Barkers did a story on veteran players that could be released or traded before the start of training camp and number one on that list is Seahawks tight end Jimmy Graham.
The 29-year-old broke onto the scene with New Orleans in 2011 with 99 receptions, 1,310 yards receiving, and 11 touchdowns. The former Saints pass catching machine followed that up with 35 touchdowns and nearly 3,000 yards over the next three years, but a move to the Pacific Northwest last season wasn’t met with the same numbers and an injury cut his season short.
What has followed is plenty of speculation on twitter about his future and the latest rumors have a possible trade to Chicago as a strong possibility.
Graham is set to make $10 million in 2016, but his unhappiness of playing in an offense that runs first and uses the short passing game to control the football, hasn’t made the fit with the former Super Bowl champs an easy transition, leading many NFL experts to believe a deal could happen in the coming weeks.
The Bears have issues of their own after dealing starting tight end Martellus Bennett to New England, after numerous off field incidents and now they find themselves with a huge whole on the offensive side of the ball.
With gunslinger Jay Cutler at the help, the Bears use the passing game to stretch the field, using big plays to help the running game, opposite of the approach in Seattle. A trade would give the Bears a big target, especially in the red zone and Seattle could use the salary cap relief and future draft choices to find players that better fit their system, making this a win-win proposition for both sides.
