Several rumors have already hit social media with the biggest name being former Baylor star Robert Griffin, but a former NFL quarterback is now in the mix as Tim Tebow has been linked with the team in recent reports.
The former Heisman Trophy winner made a comeback attempt last year with Philadelphia and many experts believed he actually won the backup job for the Eagles, but former head coach Chip Kelly made a last-minute decision to release the lefty and he went back to analyzing college football games for the SEC Network.
Now reports have the 28-year-old looking to play professional football once again and while he won’t be a starter in the league, it’s intriguing news that he could return as a backup for “America’s Team.”
The Cowboys got off to a solid start in the 2015 season, but after Romo went down with a collarbone injury, the offense struggled to score points, despite using a couple of different veterans to run the show. It just shows that chemistry and mobility are essential in the NFL today and despite Griffin being younger in age, injuries and a lack of confidence have made him a liability.
Tebow began his career with the Denver Broncos as a first round pick back in 2010. Scouts worried about his slow throwing motion, which eventually led to him leaving football, but there is no denying his work ethic and leadership skills, something the Cowboys lacked after their leader was injured.
Tebow has won a playoff game and has the it factor, something this team sorely lacks without Romo and that could make him the surprise signing for this off season and one of the best stories in football heading into the 2016 season.
