The offense for Philly looked in full gear as the team scored in every quarter and racked up over 400 yards in total offense, but unlike other teams from around the league, the biggest story on the day was the play of the backup quarterbacks.
Tebow is looking to play again in the league and despite entering the game against the Indianapolis Colts fourth on the depth chart, the former Heisman Trophy winner looked very comfortable running Chip Kelly’s offense and played well, even behind an offensive line that struggled to give the 28-year-old time in the pocket.
The former Florida Gators star finished the game completing 6-12 throws for 69 yards, but where he showed his poise was when the protection broke down and he used his legs to escape trouble. With another 15 yards on the ground, including a seven-yard scoring romp late in the fourth quarter, the lefty made great strides in gaining ground on third stringer Matt Barkley.
Philadelphia Eagles fans made a loud roar on several occasions for the former first round draft pick and on a couple plays he had to use hand signals to quit the crowd, but it wasn’t all positive for the quarterback looking to play in the NFL after missing the last two years.
One of the biggest concerns for Tim Tebow was his problem in reading blitzes from the Colts defense as he was sacked three times, but for a signal caller playing behind a make-shift line and with other skilled players unlikely to make the final roster, it was a solid start to the 2015 season and one he and the team can use to make adjustments and perhaps lead to a better performance next week against Baltimore.
