The franchise was also fined $1 million for their insolvent, leading several football experts to report that adding a veteran free agent quarterback before the start of training camp is possible.
Head coach Bill Bellichick is known for being unconventional in his running of the team and its players, but playing the start of the year with Jimmy Garoppolo and Garrett Gilbert as signal callers doesn’t exactly seem like a good idea.
Brady has carried this organization on his shoulders over his career and his suspension could jeopardize the Pats’ chances of making the playoffs in 2015. Adding a veteran like Michael Vick or Matt Flynn could help get the upcoming football season off to a good start, allowing their veteran quarterback to return with the team in good shape and not under the pressure of a must-win situation over the last twelve games.
Vick played just three games with the NY Jets last season and after two solid games, played poorly in December against Buffalo, but New England has more weapons on offense and his role would be a bit different with a better football team.
Flynn is another option and one that could make more sense. He doesn’t have the experience of Vick, but his play as a backup with Green Bay is legendary. His value overall is probably a bit lower and in the end, that could be the best selling point for the former LSU star and his agent.
With the other three teams in the AFC East making improvements over the off season, the New England Patriots can’t afford to start the year with a losing record. Adding one of these quarterbacks would help and possibly enough that another Super Bowl appearance is possible.
