article imageNFL Fantasy Football: Updated week one wide receiver rankings

By Larry Seely     Sep 5, 2016 in Sports
The last decade has seen the passing game take off in the NFL and its changed the landscape of fantasy football. Wide receiver depth is essential in the game and owners are taking several new approaches when selecting players during their drafts.
This week is the start of the regular season and for those looking for a bit of help, here's the latest rankings for week one, taking into account defensive match ups and past performances against the opposition.
Julio Jones is the main man in Atlanta and should see more targets this year with the Falcons losing some depth on the outside. This week Jones and his team face Tampa Bay at home, a game that could see plenty of points on the scoreboard. For those owners lucky enough to have the talented wide out, he's a must-start player and a number one option this weekend.
There is so much talk about Odell Beckham, it's hard not to expect big things form the NY Giants star, but the offense struggled to move the ball during the preseason and its hard just to flick a switch and expect success. This week they travel to Dallas, who has plenty of questions of their own. Its hard to imagine New York moving the ball with ease this weekend, but when they do, look for Beckham to be the main target in the passing game.
Antonio Brown was the number one in the player rankings entering the 2016 NFL season and for good reason. Ben Roethlisberger loves to target his favorite weapon 10+ times per game and the coaches even use his explosive speed in the running game. With a tough match up against Washington and new corner Josh Norman, expect a solid game, but not one where he will score 20 or more points.
For those owners with questions about their second and third starters, here's a list of players that should have solid football games this weekend.
Donte Moncrief of Indianapolis has a good match up against Detroit. Allen Hurns of Jacksonville could have a big game in what could be a shootout against Green Bay. Look for the LA Rams to get the ball in the hands of Tavon Austin early and often, making these three players good choices for fantasy football owners searching for a bit of depth to open the season.
