The Buckeyes easily defeated Western Michigan 38-12 and despite Urban Meyer’s offense not clicking on all cylinders, the defense has dominated opponents in starting the year 4-0. The program received 45 of the 61 first place votes on Sunday and unless they lose, should continue to hold the top spot no matter what happens with the teams behind them.
Another Big 10 program off to a quick start is Michigan State as the Spartans are also 4-0 and ranked second in the nation. Quarterback Connor Cook has played some terrific football, but offensive lineman Jack Conklin was injured on Saturday and that could be bad news for a team looking to win a National Championship.
Ole’ Miss struggled this weekend, but pulled out a win over Vanderbilt. The Rebels earned 10 first-place votes this week and rank third, but in the latest ESPN power rankings, the team is second based on their win at Alabama.
TCU still sits fourth after their miraculous last minute win over Texas Tech, but the Horned Frogs need to find some players on defense or risk putting too much pressure on Heisman hopeful Trevone Boykin.
UCLA is making a splash on the college football season as freshman quarterback Josh Rosen has guided the Bruins to a 4-0 start, including a big win on Saturday night against Arizona. UCLA has perhaps the most balanced team in the PAC 12 and have moved up to seventh with their strong start to the 2015 season.
Speaking of the PAC 12, watch out for Utah after their big win at Oregon over the weekend. The Utes used a dominating defensive effort to hold the Ducks to just 20 points, but more surprising was the offensive unit that put 62 points on the board and moved the program into the top-10.
