The video is from the only face-to-face meeting the two fighters have had and it happened in Pacquiao’s hotel room in Miami where, along with Pacquiao adviser Michael Koncz, they spoke for over an hour. The date was Tuesday, Jan. 27 and the hotel meet came after they met for the first time ever, at a Miami Heat-Milwaukee
Bucks game earlier that night.
In the video on Instagram, Mayweather, who actually appears to be talking to someone off-camera, likely Koncz, says that he will congratulate Pacquiao on his great career, and he says that he, too, had a great career, and then he adds that “but before we leave this sport, of course, we have to make this fight happen.”
When Mayweather posted the short video on his Instagram site he included with it the caption: “From the looks of this video…I’m telling Manny Pacquiao that we have to give the world this fight.”
Pacquiao has recently said he does not doubt Mayweather Jr. wants the fight and he told Chris Wallace on Fox on Sunday that he believes the fight will happen, and soon. “I’m thinking that the fight will happen,” he told Wallace. “So hopefully by – when we – within one week, though, we can hear from them and fix the fight.”
Recent reports suggest there are roughly two sticking points left in the negotiations, likely involving how it will be broadcast, and by whom. Many of the key players have recently spoken positively about the fight happening. In addition to the fighters, those players include Top Rank boxing promoter Bob Arum, Showtime top executive Stephen Espinoza and Freddie Roach, Manny Pacquiao’s trainer..
The date of the fight is likely to be May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
