‘King’ Felix allowed a first inning home run to Mike Trout of the LA Angles, but the Mariners All Star pitcher allowed just one more hit through seven innings, helping his club to a 4-1 victory to start the 2015 season.
Seth Smith had a terrific afternoon, going 3-3 with two doubles, a triple, and 2 runs batted in for Seattle. Austin Jackson added two hits and Dustin Ackley added a homer for the home team. The game was played in front of a crowd of nearly 46,000 fans between two teams that are expected to battle to the end for the AL West crown.
Hutchinson allowed just one run and three hits over six innings to pickup the win. The Blue Jays used home runs from Edwin Encarnacion and Devon Travis to power past New York. Catcher Russell Martin had the big hit early with a two-run single in the third that made the score 3-0.
Over 48.000 welcomed back Alex Rodriquez, who went 1-2 with a walk, but the former All Star played DH in his return to baseball, escaping some heckling from a few fans who weren’t so kind to the former All Star.
In other action, David Price was helped with two early home runs from J.D. Martinez and Alex Avila as the Detroit Tigers opened their 2015 MLB season with a 4-0 shutout of Minnesota. Price pitched 8 2/3 innings, allowing just five hits, but Joe Nathan was brought in to pickup the final out and his first save of the year before a home crowd of 45,000.
Colorado had the biggest win of the day with a 10-0 victory over Milwaukee. The Rockies scored all their runs in the first four innings and had 16 hits on the day. Nolan Arenado and Corey Dickerson both had 4 RBIs and starting pitcher Kyle Kendrick had six strikeouts over seven innings to earn the win.
