Meet Joe Smith Jr. — WBC international lightweight champion (Includes interview)

“It feels great,” he said, about being at SASI’s fund-raising event, which took place at The Inn at East Wind in Wading River. “I’m glad to be here, and to help raise awareness for this great cause.”

The professional boxer continued, “I have friends with children that have autism. I am just glad to be here and to be a part of helping out.”

A native of Long Island, New York, Smith is affectionately known as “The Irish Bomber.” His plans for the future are to continue to train, as well as to become “champion of the world.” “I want to continue helping out for causes like this, and giving back,” he said.

Each day, Joe Smith Jr. is motivated by his desire to better his life, his family’s life, as well as his friends and the people around him.

For aspiring boxers, he underscored the importance of maintaining a hard work ethic. “Follow your dreams, and work hard every day at what you want to do,” he said.

Joe Smith Jr. defined the word “success” as “becoming world champion.”
