Former Donaire foe Nicholas Walters fought Jason Sosa to a draw

The two judges scored the fight at 95-95 while the other gave it to Sosa at 96-94 for a majority draw.

Walters’ corner as well HBO’s Harold Lederman saw Walters winning safely after the fight.

Popular boxing site badlefthook.com had Walters winning by a wide margin (100-90) while Lederman had it at 99-91.

While Sosa gave a splendid performance with his unrelenting attacks, Walters delivered unobstructed body shots which appeared to have been disregarded by the judges.

It was Walters’ debut at 130 pounds following his fight against Miguel Marriaga at 126 pounds to win via a unanimous decision but was stripped of his WBO featherweight title for his failure to make the weight.

Walters’ popularity soared when he knocked out Nonito Donaire in the sixth round of their title fight at the StubHub Center last year in Carson, California last year.

Walters is known for his punching power which was evident in his victory over Donaire as well as his ring generalship and mobility in the ring.

“He is a good fighter the kind of fight I wanted but I thought I won all the rounds,” Walters noted. “So surprised this happened to me.” he said.

Sosa, who had a lone loss in his pro career is coming off a 17-fight winning streak with 14 of those fights going by way of knockout.

“I thought I won and am disappointed it was a draw,” said Sosa, whose 13-fight knockout streak came to a close. “I worked hard, I really thought I won the fight.” he added.
