Ready to rumble: Both Mayweather – Pacquiao have signed contract

Malinowski: Superfight signed

“Just received an Instant Message from an insider: The Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Superfight was signed today by both combatants,” he wrote on ringobserver on Wednesday night. Malinowski went on to say he fully trusts his source and it is a done deal.

“According to my source, sponsorship deals are already being sold,” he added. “The fight will be announced officially on Thursday or Friday. Pay per view price will be a hundred dollars. A rematch would be scheduled for November. Major companies are lining up to be a part of the biggest prizefight in boxing history.”

Lots for fight fans to digest, certainly the potential rematch. And if they wind up each winning one of those fights could we see a third, with both Pacquiao, 36, and Mayweather, who’ll be 38 on Feb. 24, retiring at the end of it?

The contract is for $250 million and a 60-40 split favoring Mayweather, who has much larger pay per view numbers. It will be broadcast by both Showtime, who have Mayweather under contract, and HBO, who are with Pacquiao, and take place in Las Vegas at the MGM Grand on May 2.

Mayweather – Pacquiao fight contract

There were reports a deal would be announced at the Superbowl, then at the NBA all-star game last Sunday. All that happened there was Mayweather talking courtside with TNT reporter David Aldridge and saying Pacquiao and Top Rank promoter Bob Arum were not telling the truth when they said they’d signed a contract. But he hinted it would happen soon and it appears it has.

If you remain unconvinced, here’s comments from Pacquiao’s trainer, the great Freddie Roach, made Tuesday when talking to media at an event at his Wildcard Gym in L.A.:

“I feel the fight is going to happen, so I’m preparing for Pacquiao to come (to L.A. and train),” Roach said. “I have to come up with a perfect game plan for this one. This is gonna be the biggest challenge ever. But I like a challenge and I think my guy can pull if off, but it won’t be easy.”

It will be a challenge for Pacquiao, for Mayweather, and the wait — stretching back five years — has challenged boxing fans to be patient.
