2016 AFL Power Rankings: Cats clawing their way to number one

Fox Sports has made headlines with their latest power rankings as they have Sydney as the top footy team in this year’s competition, despite North Melbourne beginning the season 7-0.

The Swans do have a terrific group of players, led by perhaps the top midfield group in the game. Buddy Franklin has returned with a vengeance and his six goals kicked last weekend against Essendon was his best performance in 2016.

With a game at the MCG on Saturday night, they could cement their position at the top and start making believers of fans from Victoria.

The Kangaroos are the only perfect squad on the year with a 7-0 mark and despite not losing a contest, they have yet to play the toughest part of their schedule and that is why many experts expect this team to drop a few spots in the coming weeks.

North Melbourne is getting great play from the veteran group of players, but an injury to forward Shaun Higgins will test their depth, but with Essondon on the schedule this weekend, fans of the team are expecting an 8-0 mark to begin the year.

Patrick Dangerfield was the biggest free agent signing over the off season and Geelong is reaping the rewards with the star midfielder. The Cats are second in the Fox Sports power rankings and, but with a tough contest Friday night at Adelaide against the Crows, AFL experts will get a much better idea of how good this club is at this stage of the 2016 season.

These three sides have separated themselves from the rest of the clubs in the competition, but the year is still young and with Hawthorn finally looking like the team that won the last three Premierships, things could change greatly over the next couple of months.
