2015 SEC Preview: Can ‘Bama’ regain top spot in college football?

This could be the deepest conference in 2015 with six schools in the AP Top-25 preseason poll, but with all the talent and tradition, each team has some major questions heading into the upcoming college football season.

Saban has perhaps the strongest defense in the country, but the Crimson Tide enter the year with questions at quarterback and until the team settles on a signal caller, the offense could start slowly and that could hurt their chances of being one of the four best teams at seasons end.

While the ‘Tide’ need to find a QB, Auburn has their man in Jeremy Johnson, but with limited experience after two years of playing backup, the youngster enters the season with perhaps the most pressure of any player in the SEC.

Sports Illustrated has the Tigers as the team to beat and number two overall in the country, but Johnson will need to play at the level of all the hype generated this off season if the school is to pass Alabama and make a trip into the NCAA College Football Playoffs in January.

Two programs that could make some noise this season are Georgia and Tennessee. The ‘Vols’ have had two straight years of top-10 recruiting classes and head coach Butch Jones believes that will lead to more wins on the field. Despite finishing last season 7-6 and just three wins in the conference, experts and the coach believe the talent is in place for a big year.

The ‘Dawgs’ have also recruited well over the last few years and enter the season with the leagues best offensive weapon. Running back Nick Chubb rushed for over 1,500 yards as backup to Todd Gurley and projections of a 2,000 yard effort in 2015 isn’t out of the question, but Georgia will need the defense to play a bigger role this season if the school wants to play in January.
