The 21-year-old was able to clear 5.93 meters on his first attempt, which was enough for him to win the Diamond League competition in Brussels, which was the last Diamond League meeting of the year. American pole vaulter Sam Kendricks cleared 5.88 meters on his third and final attempt.
Morgunonv bested stiff competition from reigning world champion Sam Kendricks, who finished in second place, as well as Canadian pole vaulter Shawn Barber, who finished in third place with 5.83 meters.
World record holder Renaud Lavillenie finished in fifth place with 5.73 meters, 2018 European champion Mondo Duplantis came in seventh place with 5.68 meters, and 2016 Olympic gold medalist Thiago Braz (of Brazil) came in tenth place with 5.53 meters.
This marked Morgunov's second consecutive victory this week. The Russian athlete previously won in Zurich, as Digital Journal reported. Earlier this month, Morgunov took home the silver medal at the 2018 European Championships, after he cleared six meters.
