"#ArethaFranklin. THE voice of generations. RIP," Lambert tweeted to his fans and followers.
In a subsequent post, Lambert shared that he had listened to every recording of Aretha Franklin's classic hit "Think," when he was asked to do his own version. "It was a masterclass studying her vocal magic," he said. "Whenever I am struggling to catch the spirit, to really feel a song, listening to her flips that switch," he added.
Years ago, Lambert praised the Grammy tribute for Aretha Franklin that was done by such diverse yet distinguished female recording artists as Christina Aguilera, Florence Welch, Martina McBride, Jennifer Hudson and Yolanda Adams. Franklin herself "loved" that tribute.
Lambert's rendition of "Think" is available on Spotify.
The "Queen of Soul" Aretha Franklin passed away at the age of 76 after a long battle with advanced pancreatic cancer. Ironically enough, she died on the same day (August 16) that Elvis Presley died back in 1977.
