The project was co-produced by Jason Barry, Eric Silver and Danick Duppelle. Michelle showcased her songwriting talent, thus co-writing ten out of the record’s eleven songs.
Her album opens with her empowering title track and current single “Strong,” which deserves to propel to the top of the country charts.
It is followed by “Crazy Stupid Love,” which is fun and refreshing, as well as the optimistic “One of These Days.”
“What’s Better Than This” and “Laugh a Little” are both upbeat and they display Michelle’s versatility as an artist.
“She’s a Keeper” is poignant and filled with raw emotions, meanwhile “Another Good Day” is the record’s lead-off single.
She tackles “Walkin’ on a Heart That’s Breakin’” with a lot of delicacy and she sings with a lot of heart.
The album closes on an emotional note with the piano driven ballad “I’ll Cry Too,” which she co-wrote with veteran singer-songwriter Patricia Conroy. Michelle’s harking alto voice on this tune is certain to move listeners to tears.
The Verdict
Michelle Wright’s latest release “Strong” is definitely “a keeper,” to quote the title of an album cut. She always manages to outdo herself with every new album that she releases. This CD is very uplifting and full of hope and there are no filler tracks on here; moreover, each of the eleven songs has the potential to become a radio single. If Canadian country music had a leading lady, Michelle Wright would certainly be the queen.
Based on this well-written and flawlessly sung record, Michelle deserves to be nominated for a Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA) 'Female Artist of the Year' award this winter, and if there is any justice, she ought to win.
