The (EDL) English Defence League Facebook page, which has 14,070 ‘likes’ reports “Tommy is back at Wandsworth Prison and has been given a provisional release date of 7th March.”
After his sentencing they also reported “Tommy is well chuffed with the result today and his Solicitor has said he is also eligible to apply for ‘tagging’ in a couple of weeks, one step nearer to having the ‘leader’ home with us.”
Some of those commenting believed that he was a political prisoner. One posted “it wasn't a faked passport, he had used a real passport that didn't belong to him, I've heard of many cases where this has happened by watching airport programs on TV and normally the offender is just sent home, why Tommy deserves a jail sentence for this isn't beyond me, they just want him banged up to keep him quiet, a political prisoner as Matt Hingley said.”
Another expressed concern for the strain that Tommy would have been under, saying, “I dont even think he should jump straight back in to the EDL anyway. Maybe make a few statements yes. But really he should take some time out to be with his children and family because the strain of all this would of been immense on relationships, believe me. And anyone who says different hasnt got a clue and should clear of. Just hopefully he will be ready for Manchester thats the only thing that we should ask for.”
The EDL plans to hold a national demonstration in Manchester on Saturday, 2 March. When the EDL last protested in Manchester in October 2009 about 700 supporters took part.
The EDL website has introduced a ‘Countdown to Freedom!’ tool on its front page, indicating the number of days to go until Tommy’s release.
