A custodian at Downtown Disney found three hand grenades in one of the trash cans on Wednesday night, reported My Fox Orlando. Media reports said the find was made at about 7:30 p.m. and that the receptacle was located near the cast services building.
Officers from the Orange County Sheriff's Explosive Ordinance Device Team came and examined the grenades. It appeared the items were hollowed out training grenades and were not a threat.
Police evacuated the cast services building and removed the grenades offsite at 10 p.m. to an undisclosed location when it was reported they would be blown up as a precaution, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
Seemingly, no one knows who or why the grenades were placed into a trash can located on the Disney property.
The location where the grenades were found was a parking lot that is only accessible to employees of Disney. There were no disruptions at Downtown Disney while this was taking place and operations continued as normal.
"There was minimal disruption to guests," Disney spokeswoman Kathleen Prihoda said.
Downtown Disney is a popular section of Walt Disney World where visitors come to shop and dine. Additionally, Downtown Disney is well-known for its nightlife.
