Health Canada warning: Do your kids have these lead-tainted toys?

Posted Feb 20, 2012 by Tucker Cummings
Health Canada's latest announcement has parents on high alert: two children's playset toys manufactured in China are said to contain dangerously high levels of lead.
CBC News reports that a pizza playset and a fishing game with a toy rod manufactured by Ningbo Ftz Zhengbao International Trading Co., Ltd in China can be harmful to children if swallowed, chewed, or sucked on.
Side effects of chewing on toys contaminated with lead can include "anemia, vomiting, diarrhea, serious brain injury, convulsions, coma, as well as effects related to the liver, kidneys, heart and immune system." Death can also occur in extreme cases.
Parents are being told to throw away the toys immediately, and then immediately remove the household trash from their home.
Health Canada offers a product incident report form on their website, which can be used to report any side effects experienced by children who played with these toys. Consumers can also contact Health Canada with additional questions by calling toll free at 1-866-225-0709.
