Senator Joe Lieberman has concluded that the Fort Hood massacre was the result of an "Islamist extremist," labeling the incident a "terrorist act."
Senator Lieberman's statements come amid calls from the Army's top brass to refrain from assuming any motives or judgements.
"There are very, very strong warning signs here that Dr. Hasan had become an Islamist extremist and, therefore, that this was a terrorist act," Senator Lieberman told Fox News on Sunday. "If the reports that we're receiving of various statements he made, acts he took are valid, he had turned to Islamist extremism."
Army investigators are asking for civilian assistance to help better piece together the grim events - in hopes that more witnesses will yield greater evidence.
Thirteen people died as a result of the shooting at the Ford Hood base - and an additional 42 people were wounded.
"The Fort Hood office of the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command is seeking any military or civilian personnel who may have left the scene ... with gunshot damage such as damaged privately owned vehicles, personnel clothing, etc.," investigators said in a written statement, according to CNN.
