Op-Ed: Do You Really Think An Average American Could Ever Be President?

Posted Apr 16, 2008 by KJ Mullins
Children in America are being told that they can grow up and become President of the United States. Really? Sorry to burst your dreams but Bubba really doesn't have much of a chance if he's the average American.

The average American kid growing up today will have a mom, dad, step mom, and step dad. He will work hard to make around $60,000 a year if he's doing as well as Billy Bob down the street by the time he's 30. That is if he went through four years of college and added in some grad school. Chances are more likely though that he'll pull in about $40,000. Bubba's wife Cindy Lou who took some college courses is making by with about $30,000. They are doing a little better than most families on average.
The lowest salary of the three candidates running for the Presidential office this term is Obama who only raked in a million last year. They are not the national average at all.
Bubba is probably going to finish high school like 85.2% of Americans. About half of all Americans take some college classes but only 36.2% finish a two year program and 27.6% finish all four years.
For Bubba to even think he's got a shot at the White House he's got to hit those books hard. Going to Main Street U.S.A. Junior College isn't going to help him in his bid for the top job.
Harvard, Yale, the Naval Academy......those are the type of schools that shape the future commander-in-chief for the nation. Those schools don't come cheaply and the average student isn't allowed through their Ivy gates.
Most people fall into the lower middle class or the working class, struggling from pay check to pay check. Can any of the current candidates be considered in these classes? I don't think so. Bubba's got to aim high to make it to the upper middle class and still that's not a high enough class to take the reins of the nation. The Capitalist class making up of just 1% of all Americans rules the world.
The reality is that Bubba is shuffling out the door to his office job at 8 hoping beyond hope that the lay-offs don't come this year. He had a house but lost it in the non-recession that he swears that is while tossing back a few beers on the weekly boys night out. He got married to Cindy Lou and they worry about how they are going to pay for their kid's (Bubba Junior and Mary Jane) next doctor visit. The last time Bubba Jr. got really sick almost wiped out the little bit of savings they had. College savings are being thought of but the kids will have to work their high school years to help that dream along.
And when Bubba told Bubba Jr. that he could grow up to become the President of the United States? He burst out laughing when he walked out of the room.
