The six-month-old female calf was discovered on the Yamal peninsula of Russia and is thought to have died 10,000 years ago.

The animal's trunk and eyes are still intact and some of its fur remains on the body.

The 130cm (4ft 3ins) tall, 50kg Siberian specimen is from the end of the last Ice Age, a time when these creatures were vanishing from the planet.

Apparently, the only thing wrong with it is that it's tail had been bit off. Other then that, it is remarkable how well preserved it is. Some scientists are hoping they can get enough cells containing DNA to resurrect the mammoth. They believe that with a good specimen they could potentially have a clone within 22 months. And this looks like it could be the one.

Quite an amazing discovery to find one in such a good state. I am sure they can learn alot from it.
