Warm and Endearing Storytelling in a Candidly Written Memoir
Washington (PRWEB) June 30, 2012
Satirist and author Kurt Vonnegut used to say that his principle objection to life is the fact that it is too easy, when alive, to make perfectly alarming mistakes. In Four Eyes, Knock Knees, and Nappy Hair, Audrienne Roberts Womack talks about the same alarming mistakes way back in her life’s early years. With her warm and endearing storytelling, Womack crystallizes the dysfunctional array of childhood memories into something beautiful.
Four Eyes, Knock Knees and Nappy Hair is a complete collection of fifty life stories taken directly from Womack's childhood, adolescence and teen years. The idea of crafting the memoir started out when Womack started to gain acknowledgement of her adult self and learn to embrace all the journeys that she has experienced. While in the process of writing the stories for this autobiography, she began to see her existence as a process of growth and pride and not of shame and denial. With maturity and time, the author was able to acknowledge her early beginnings as the vehicle that was responsible for whom she is today. She candidly recalls her experiences and writes about the odyssey in Four Eyes, Knock Knees and Nappy Hair.
The author wrote in the foreword, “It is with these truths that I have been blessed, and it is with the combination of all these lessons that I am able to validate my life and speak of true appreciation. Based on the experiences I once had, doubt and fear use to cloud my perception of how I judged myself, but not anymore.” Furthermore, Womack wants everyone who reads this book to say, “I too have a story to tell and I’m going to let my voice be heard.”
From the naïve tone of “Birds and Bees” to the not-so-innocent accounts of “Fingers and Things” and “Shoplifting Basics”, Four Eyes, Knock Knees and Nappy Hair is at equal turns stirring and entertaining.
This book will be featured at the 2012 Book Expo America in New York City on June 5-8, 2012.
