COVID-19 Has Exacerbated Food Insecurity Throughout Pennsylvania
According to the City of Pittsburgh, nearly 32% of children in the city live below the federal poverty line. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank has seen a heightened demand for food assistance throughout the area. Between March 16 and June 2, it provided over 1.3 pounds of food to members of the community.
How Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank Fights the Hunger Problem
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank and its sponsoring partners aim to address the hunger problem in southwestern Pennsylvania by providing aid to food insecure populations.
The organization sources healthy food through its partnerships with food manufacturers, charitable organizations, farms, and local retailers. It then processes and packages their donations at a 95,000-foot facility, and finally delivers the food to residents with food insecurity in the 11 counties that it serves.
Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank has several campaigns designed to help people with needs throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. If you are interested in donating to Project Hunger, you can make a donation either online or over the phone.
Join Berger and Green in Donating During Project Hunger Week
In the wake of the pandemic, Berger and Green have decided to match up to $50,000 during Project Hunger Week. They hope that others will lend a helping hand in addressing the food insecurity problem throughout southwestern Pennsylvania.
"When the pandemic hit, and so many people were without income, we knew that our past donations were not enough. We decided to get in touch with Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank directly because we wanted to do more," said Cynthia C. Berger, founding partner at Berger and Green. "As we learned more about the seriousness of the need, we asked if we could do something to spur others to give and decided to become a matching gift sponsor at Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank during WTAE-TV's Project Hunger Week."
Berger and Green extends legal services to residents in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. You can call Berger and Green today at (412) 661-1400 to learn more about their services and role in the Project Hunger Week campaign.
