Needham, MA – Commonwealth Learning Online Institute (CLOI), a nonprofit organization offering web-based professional development for teachers, announces their Close Reading course, which begins on January 9, 2020. This program will provide the tactical skills to help students fulfill state education and reading standards through focusing intently on text — giving it a thorough examination to gather as much meaning as possible.
“Close reading is essential to aid both struggling and advanced readers in navigating their academic careers. It really helps all students understand the core of a text — gives them a more complete grasp on the content they are consuming,” states Kim Michel, Director of CLOI PD. “Our Close Reading course is a deep-dive exploration of this technique that gives tips to improve close reading skills in the classroom, which is a different reading comprehension teaching style than educators may have previously been taught.”
This seven week 50 hour course, geared towards teachers of Pre-K through Grade 3, will cover classroom strategies and tactics to help students read complex materials more effectively. Participants will come away with a broad understanding of how to approach close reading in the classroom, as well as a week-long close reading lesson plan, which is the culminating project of the course.
The course is available online at https://cloiedu.com/product/close-reading/.
