>PRWEB.COM Newswire

Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) July 18, 2011

Join the Hire Heroes USA (Hire Heroes) marathon team on Sunday, October 30, 2011 in Washington DC for the 36th annual Marine Corps Marathon. The team captain is Hire Heroes USA Executive Director – and former US Marine infantry officer - Nathan Smith. Team members will push themselves to their physical limits while running past iconic monuments, over the historic Potomac, and next to the hallowed grounds of Arlington – all to help raise $50,000 for Hire Heroes USA’s nationally-recognized veteran employment assistance programs. With more than 1.3 million unemployed veterans seeking work, there has never been a better time to help. The need is now. Join the Team and run with us on October 30, 2011.

The MCM is the fourth largest marathon in the U.S. and the eighth largest in the world with 30,000 runners registering annually. General marathon registration is sold out, but Hire Heroes has 20 running spots available. Runners must register no later than Friday, August 5th in order to run with the Hire Heroes USA Team. For those wishing to run in the 2011 MCM, charity partners like Hire Heroes USA provide an outstanding opportunity to “run for a reason”. "Whether you are an experienced runner with many marathons to your credit, a novice runner who has never entered a race, or someone looking for an opportunity to positively affect our Nation’s veterans, joining the Hire Heroes USA Team as a runner or sponsor for “The People’s Marathon” is a perfect way to attain personal goals while making a difference for unemployed veterans.” – Nate Smith

About Hire Heroes USA:
Hire Heroes USA’s mission is to offer transition assistance, job search assistance, and job placement services to those who have honorably served in the military - and to their spouses - with a special focus on the two demographics statistically most likely to be unemployed: young veterans of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM and/or ENDURING FREEDOM, and veterans that are wounded or disabled.

Hire Heroes USA is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, formed by MedAssets President and Chief Executive Officer John A. Bardis in 2007 to address his concern for the plight of unemployed veterans. In the past year the organization has:

  • Received, revised, and returned to veterans over 800 professional-quality résumés that translated military experience into transferable job skills
  • Conducted 12 Wounded Warrior Transition Assistance Workshops at 9 different military bases for 200 wounded or disabled Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines
  • Reduced by 70% the cost of helping a veteran to get hired in FY11
  • Helped more than 170 veterans/spouses achieve sustainable employment
