QUÉBEC, Feb. 25, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The National Battlefields
Commission's new activity, Montcalm, is an interactive way to learn about the history of the siege of
Québec and the battles of the Plains of Abraham. The videoconferencing
activity, offered in French and English and available at Canadian high
schools, was officially launched this afternoon at Quebec High School
in Québec with the participation of 23 Secondary Three history
students.
Under orders from the French General Marquis de Montcalm issued live
from the Plains of Abraham, students went back in time to famous
battles without leaving the classroom. The young recruits learned about
military strategies and manœuvres of the period, handled historical
objects, took part in a drill, and survived field surgery.
Each year the Plains of Abraham, a leader known for its dynamic approach
to living history, draws more than 2,000 groups (75,000 people) to the
site to explore their rich heritage. More than 50 educational and fun
activities are offered for primary school, high school, and adult
groups. Day care centres and day camps are also available. Technology
has raised the accessibility bar for groups, so we can now offer
inexpensive videoconferencing activities all across Canada!
