Man with the Dancing Mustache is Awarded Crowd Funding Campaign by YouTubers “whatever”

The man with the dancing mustache, aka Clydesdale, discovered by YouTube pranksters “whatever”, now has more reason than ever to make his mustache dance. The homeless man whose video went viral is the recipient of a crowd funding campaign set up by whatever’s Brian Altarac. Supported by over 180 generous contributors, the Indiegogo campaign raised more than $2500, surpassing its initial $1,000 goal after only a few days. The big moment of handing Clydesdale a stack of $10 bills, totaling $3000, has been caught on whatever’s main YouTube channel.

In late March, Clydesdale became an overnight viral sensation when YouTube pranksters whatever stumbled on his dancing mustache talent after a day out filming one of their pranks. The video has received close to 1.8 million views. Clydesdale is a homeless man who resides in Isla Vista, Santa Barbara who enjoys bringing smiles to others more than anything, with a mustache trick that is best described as a cross between a caterpillar and dance moves seen on Dancing with the Stars.

The campaign asked contributors to donate towards several perks such as a new set of teeth for Clydesdale, even though being toothless is indispensable in Clydesdale performing his mustache dance. Viewer response to Clydesdale has shown an outpouring of support for the homeless man.

The “whatever” threesome of Brian Altarac, Luke Eilers and Fred Ligaard checked up on the mustache man on two additional occasions after their first encounter. A follow-up video posted on the “whatever2nd” channel shows his excited reaction to the viral video. An interview video along with another video of a harmonica-playing Clydesdale followed.

Clydesdale has been featured on CNN, ShowBiz Tonight, MSN.com, Huffington Post UK, Style Bistro, Ebaumsworld, RightThisMinute and Reddit. Clydesdale also appeared on a famous Russian YouTube channel (This is Horosho), and won fans in Russia as well as across the world.

According to Altarac, Clydesdale is well-known in the community for his help with other homeless and ensuring they are provided meals through a local church. His wife passed away tragically when her motorcycle was hit by a semi-truck a year and a half ago. Clydesdale is 56 years old. Altarac states, “Clydesdale has been a huge inspiration to us all. He is so full of life and cares deeply about helping others and making them smile.”

Launched only in January 2013, “whatever” already has over 100,000 channel subscribers and has racked up 10,000,000 views between their main and second channels. Three of their prank videos have topped over 1,000,000 views. The fast-growing channel focuses on “pranks, social experiments and randomness.”
