axle Video and FilmPartners announce integrated media management/pre-editing/editing solution
Affordable joint system to be demonstrated at EMC-Isilon booth at NAB Show
BOSTON, March 27, 2013
BOSTON, March 27, 2013 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- axle Video, the startup which is pioneering radically simple media management, and FilmPartners, a Netherlands-based leader in shared editing systems, today introduced a combined solution that can be deployed in conjunction with scalable, open systems storage systems. The system will have its public debut at the NAB Show, Las Vegas, April 8th-11, in the EMC Isilon booth.
The solution combines axle Gear, axle's new integrated rackmount system that integrates browser-based media management with powerful transcode capabilities, with FilmPartners' MXFServer software running on an IT-standard rackmount server. Users can log in to both components of the system from any modern web browser; the system supports iPads, Windows PCs, and Macs as browser clients.
axle Gear provides radically simple media management and pre-editing capability to the combined solution. Based on axle's search, subclipping and collaboration functions, users across both local and wide area networks can efficiently search and browse media without any technical training. With the integration provided, shot selection can be performed in axle and the resulting subclip collections transferred transparently to MXFserver. Timeline-based metadata such as locators and comments are passed along with the subclips. axle Gear supports a wide range of media formats, and automatically generates H.264 proxy media for all assets that are cataloged on shared storage.
FilmPartners' MXFserver™ provides powerful editing capability to the combined solution. MXFServer includes a complete set of post-production management functions so that editors, graphic artists, producers and other users can easily find the materials they need for their projects. When users connect to a given project, everything needed for that project is provided. MXFserver presents virtual workspaces that satisfy the operating requirements of the tools being used. Multiple users may connect concurrently to the same project, and share the same materials, with either the same or different post-production tools, providing an environment that is optimal for collaborative post-production. It supports native editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut 7 and Avid Media Composer workflows.
Both axle and MXFserver software components offer their production management functions without interfering with the data path between client workstations and storage. As a result, storage performance and scaling benefits are not impacted by axle Gear or MXFServer operation.
Pricing for axle Gear is $6,995, and pricing for MXFServer is site specific, depending on the editing and storage configuration. The combined solution is available from MXFServer dealers worldwide, beginning May 1st. The two companies will be demonstrating the solution in the EMC Isilon booth, SL8011 at NAB. In addition, axle will be exhibiting in booth SL14316, and is holding two webinars on Thursday, March 28th regarding its newest software release, Revision 8.
