Yourwellness Magazine Looks at High Expectations of Female Breadwinners

>PRWEB.COM Newswire

London, UK (PRWEB UK) 27 March 2013

According to a new study from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business, women bringing home more money than their male partners are still expected to fulfil traditional roles in relationships. For leadership and coaching trainer Jenny Garrett, author of Rocking Your Role: The “How To” Guide to Success for Female Breadwinners, this can cause women to experience “Superwoman Syndrome” in which they take on too much to meet these expectations.

“You strap on your cape of invulnerability every morning, thinking that no one will notice it fraying. But unaddressed, the threads begin to unravel, leading to problems with your physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing, not to mention the negative impact on relationships and work performance.” Jenny added that the myth that women can “do it all” is something that women themselves perpetuate, and can have a ripple effect where the more they do, the less other people feel they need to do.

Jenny also gave Yourwellness Magazine five main tips to get rid of Superwoman Syndrome.
1.    It’s OK not to be able to do it all. Hear it, think it and then say it out loud.
2.    Let go of the reins. Taking a step back and allowing others to pitch in could be helpful and give a new perspective on an old task or routine.
3.    Ease up on expectations. Will the world end if there isn’t a cooked dinner on the table every night?
4.    Contract out. Even if it’s only once a year, contracting odd jobs to a professional, such as gardening, cleaning or ironing, can free up some much-needed personal quality time.
5.    Create space. Activities such as walking, meditating or a session with an executive coach allows time for reflection and adjusting unhelpful behaviour.
