‘Possibility’ that bomb was on board Russian jet: Obama

-

US President Barack Obama on Thursday raised the "possibility" that a bomb had brought down a Russian jet over Egypt's Sinai peninsula, killing all 224 people on board, while emphasizing it was too early to say for sure.

"I think there is a possibility that there was a bomb on board and we are taking that very seriously," Obama told KIRO radio, which is associated with the CBS network.

The Metrojet Airbus A321 crashed last weekend shortly after taking off from the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, killing all on board and raising suspicions it was brought down by a bomb.

The Islamic State group has claimed responsibility. But Egypt and Russia have played down suggestions of a bombing, with Cairo saying there was "no evidence" to support the theory.
