A statement from the Lebanon-based resistance fighters said the attack came in retaliation for an Israeli air strike last week, which killed six fighters. “At 11:25 this morning, al-Quneitra Martyr’s Brigade targeted an Israeli convoy with specialized heavy duty rockets in the occupied Lebanese Shebaa farms area,” the statement read. The convoy included Israeli artillery, an officer and several soldiers, many of whom were injured.”

A spokesman for the IDF confirmed two of its solders were killed and seven injured by an anti-tank missile fired at an army convoy.

Israeli Defense Forces officials promised a swift and forceful retaliation. A Haaretz correspondent reported Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman had communicated to his counterpart in China, “Israel should retaliate Hezbollah’s attack in a “forceful and disproportionate manner.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told GLZ Radio, “I suggest that all those who are challenging us on our northern border, look at what happened in Gaza.”

A Spanish member of the U.N. peacekeeping force in Lebanon has been killed by Israeli mortar fire, a spokesman for the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon confirmed.

Israel continued heavy shelling in Southern Lebanon, while Hezbollah hit back in the Syrian Golan.
