Actually, the British are more likely to use the phrase as ‘bright as buttons’ but however you put it, the palace photos show two adorable wee ones. In them, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, Princess of Cambridge, born on May 2, is being held by her big brother Prince George, born July 22, 2013 and now 22-months old.
The two are on a couch together and George is kissing his sister upon her forehead. The photographs, taken on an undisclosed date in the weeks following Princes Charlotte’s birth, were snapped by none other than their mother, The Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
Uploaded onto Twitter Saturday, as of this writing the photos have been retweeted almost 35,000 times and favorited nearly 41,000 times. They are the first photographs of the princess to be made public.
Thanks to the birth of the princess, the succession to the throne is now as follows: Prince Charles, grandfather of Prince George and Princess Charlotte, is first in line and is he is followed by his son, Prince William, who is of course George and Charlotte’s father. Then comes Prince George and fourth is now the princess.
By virtue of her birth, Princess Charlotte knocks her uncle, Prince Harry, the brother of her father, one notch down into fifth in succession to the throne. It’s the highest ranking to the throne that a newborn girl has had since Queen Elizabeth’s second child, Beatrice, was born in 1950.
