A review of the evidence against Sepp Blatter will show that he was not responsible for any mismanagement, his lawyer said Friday after Switzerland opened criminal proceedings against the FIFA boss.
"Mr. Blatter is cooperating and we are confident that when the Swiss authorities have a chance to review the documents and the evidence they will see that the contract was properly prepared and negotiated by the appropriate staff members of FIFA", said a statement by Richard Cullen, a defence lawyer based in Virginia.
"Certainly no mismanagement occurred."
Cullen was referring to a deal with the Caribbean Football Union that Swiss prosecutors said was "unfavourable to FIFA" and which is central to their case against the head of world football's governing body.
