St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Babylon suffers fire damage

According to an article in a local news outlet, the fire was caused by a malfunctioning refrigerator that was in a small room by the altar.

In his interview with the local media, presiding priest Father Demetrios Kazakis stated that “smoke damage is extensive” and that “many newly-painted religious icons were destroyed.”

Church officials launched a GoFundMe campaign to help rebuild the church. “Friends. Please reach out to all of your contacts. We need help to raise funds to rebuild our beautiful church. Thank you,” they posted on their official Facebook page.
