Sarah Palin endorses Donald Trump two weeks before Iowa

Trump is “honored”

The Palin quote on a press release on Trump’s website was brief: “I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States of America,” she wrote. The website called her backing “amongst the most sought after and influential amongst Republicans.”

Trump agrees. “I am greatly honoured to receive Sarah’s endorsement,” he said. “She is a friend, and a high quality person whom I have great respect for. I am proud to have her support.” He added that he believes her endorsment “could very well result in votes.”

At an Iowa rally Tuesday evening Palin mocked Trump’s rivals, saying they were “wearing this political correctness kinda like a suicide vest.” Once Trump is elected, she said, they’ll be no more “pussyfootin’ around” because Trump was going to “kick ISIS’s ass.”

After she spoke Trump said “we’re going to give them hell.”

Meanwhile, despite not getting her endorsement, Senator Ted Cruz told media he remains a “big, big fan of Sarah Palin’s.” Trump is just behind Cruz for the lead in polling for Iowa, though he leads nationally. In Iowa Marco Rubio, Ben Carson and the rest are well behind the two leaders.

Palin backs Trump

Palin, who does not now hold political office, is a former governor of Alaska and was the running mate of Sen. John McCain in his failed 2008 bid to defeat Barack Obama and win the White House. The weight of her endorsement is considered to be of great worth.

In the recent Republican debate, Trump and Cruz sparred over the issue of Cruz not being born in the U.S. but in Canada. Trump thinks the Democrats would use it against Cruz should he win the nomination and that Cruz could a liability to the party.

Not surprisingly, Cruz countered by saying the Constitution did not intend to eliminate Americans born in another country to at least one American parent from holding the highest office.

Trump is on record as saying he would love to have Palin as a part of a Donald Trump administration in the White House and Palin is on record as saying she’d love to be part of a Trump administration.

She said she’d like the Ministry of Energy post.
