The U.S. capitol remains of high alert after a small gyrocopter lands outside the west end of the Capitol building. The pilot has been detained at this time.
According to ABC news the U.S. capitol police are investing a hair raising event that took place just moments ago when a small gyrocopter landed on the lawn of the West End of the United States Capitol building. In a statement recently released to the media Capitol Police Public Information Officer Lieutenant Kimberly Schneider said:
"The U.S. Capitol Police continues to investigate with one person detained and temporary street closures in the immediate area."
Sources have also reported that the pilot was allegedly attempting to deliver a political message. Although the pilot's name has yet to be released it has been confirmed that a man named Doug Hughes contacted a Tampa Bay reporter to unveil his plan to send a message to the government. The plan shows similarities to Houghes idea of sending a political message. It appears his plans have now come full circle.
I have got a plane, a gyro-plane. And I’m going to fly it, I’m going to violate the no-fly zone, non-violent. I’m going to land on the Capitol Mall. No sane person would do what I’m doing.
The FBI and US Capitol Police are currently removing the gyrocopter and any hazardous material or machinery with the use of special remotely controlled robot. According to White house officials President Obama landed in north Carolina this morning and has been briefed on the situation.
