Op-Ed: Donald Trump — Reasoned statement or hissy fit? You be the judge

Campaigns collide

The loss clearly hurt — Cruz has emerged with 36 delegates, Trump gets but six (John Who? snags none). The vote saw Cruz get 48 percent, Trump 35. That all happened despite Trump insisting at the last moment he would do far better in the Badger state than polls suggested and the final numbers would be a “surprise.” If by surprising he meant the large margin of victory for Cruz then maybe so.

Trump spokeswoman Hope Hicks officially released the statement at hand and it takes Cruz and the Republican party brass to task. ‘Lyin Ted, illegal coordinating with Super PACS and “party bosses attempting to steal the nomination” are all covered.

And more.

Trump continues to lead and now has 743 delegates to 517 for Cruz, with John Kasich out of it with 143. Needed to win is 1,237 and it is now looking like Trump will not get there before the convention in Cleveland in July. If the gloves weren’t off before Wisconsin then after this they are now.

They likely were off before, however, a tweet from Trump in which he posted an unflattering photo of Cruz’ wife and mocked her is an indicator of that. But is this latest uttering from Trump a statement or a tirade? Is it reasoned or an emotional reaction to a Trump thump? Is it more a hissy fit than anything else?

You be the judge:

Donald J. Trump withstood the onslaught of the establishment yet again. Lyin’ Ted Cruz had the Governor of Wisconsin, many conservative talk radio show hosts, and the entire party apparatus behind him. Not only was he propelled by the anti-Trump Super PAC’s spending countless millions of dollars on false advertising against Mr. Trump, but he was coordinating with his own Super PACs (which is illegal) who totally control him. Ted Cruz is worse than a puppet — he is a Trojan horse, being used by the party bosses attempting to steal the nomination from Mr. Trump. We have total confidence that Mr. Trump will go on to win in New York, where he holds a substantial lead in all the polls, and beyond. Mr. Trump is the only candidate who can secure the delegates needed to win the Republican nomination and ultimately defeat Hillary Clinton, or whomever is the Democratic nominee, in order to Make America Great Again.

Brokered convention…

The New York primary now comes along on April 19 and Trump is virtually guaranteed not just a win in his home state but a lopsided one. And he is leading by as many as 9 points in Pennsylvania, which goes to the polls on April 26. Still, the damage has been done and it is not likely that he will get to Cleveland with the delegates needed to win.

If he does not and the GOP tries to pull any shenanigans at their party’s first brokered convention since 1976, the above statement by the Trump team will likely be mild by comparison to what will then come out – and what will then happen. It promises to be a wild ride from here on in.

If it hasn’t already been.
