Yorkshire terrier travels north
Linda Baldazo, 42, is the owner of one-year-old Nicholas, and the two live in Tucson, Arizona. Last October the dog didn’t come home and finally Linda knew he was missing, eventually thinking he may be gone forever. After a while you give up, but she still had some hope.
Fast forward to last week, Feb. 6. when Linda got a call from Lori Nachtwey, who works for the Bay Area Humane Society — in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
Nicholas was found running down a road in Howard, Wisconsin and turned into the society. A microchip gave them Linda’s phone number. The dog was 1,800 miles, almost 3,000 kilometers, away from home.
“When they called me last week,” Linda said Friday. “It was awesome, because it’s like your kid. I have no idea how he got there but it’s a great story.”
Jack Russel terrier goes west
She has no idea how her dog got to Wisconsin but the 1,800 miles that he traveled were beaten by a Jack Russel terrier from Philadelphia named Gidget last year. Gidget went missing in April of 2014 from Philly and was found, again because of a microchip, in September — in Portland, Oregon.
She turned up at the Bonnie Hays Animal Shelter in Portland and they contacted her owners in Philly, who asked not to be identified. Gidget is home now after a nice 3,000-mile trip.
Meanwhile, the journey for Nicholas isn’t over. He’ll remain at the Humane Society in Green Bay until Linda gets the money together to fly there and fetch him home.
