Doggedly cute cat gets 2.6 million Youtube views shoveling snow

James Gilfoy is the owner of the cat, our man Rudiger. He’s trapped inside with four feet of snow that stands between him and the great north outside. When Gilfoy opened the door after a record snowstorm in the Canadian province of New Brunswick, that’s what he found.

But before Mr. Gilfoy could get himself a shovel and do something about the bank of snow impeding their escape from home, the family pet cat Rudiger went for it. His owner said that initially the cat was confused about it all but he soon went to work. The video shows it all, he keeps trying, digging, jumping, tenaciously working his way outside.

Gilfoy, whose girlfriend was reluctant to have him post the video because she was concerned her mother would think they were just wasting heat by keeping the door open like that, told Grind TV that Rudiger initially reacted in an even funnier way – before he had the camera on.

“Our cat loves going out and playing in the snow and I usually just take pictures and video of him because I get a kick out of it,” the amazed Gilfoy said. “Never imagined in a thousand years that the video would have taken off the way it has. His initial reaction was hilarious, but I wasn’t filming at that time.”

Rudiger, who they adopted from a shelter two years ago, is a big fan of snow but his owner said he’s not all that pleased about the cold that goes along with it. Moncton, where they’re from, tends to get cold during winter, every winter, so that leaves Rudiger having to deal with it. As the video shows he may not like the cold but you can’t keep a good cat down.

Now if only our teenagers were so disposed.
