SC woman allegedly beats husband after he refuses sex

Police were called to a home in Rock Hill, South Carolina around 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 17. When officers arrived they found a man covered in blood. Blood was also found on the walls. According to the victim, his wife wanted to have sex but he didn’t. After he refused her offer of sex, she threw ceramic figurines at him. She allegedly followed that by beating him with nunchucks.

Nunchucks, also called nunchaku sticks are a Japanese weapon consisting of two solid pieces of wood, joined together with a chain.

The Charlotte Observer reports the husband said his wife, who had been taking Xanax that night, became irate after he refused to have sex with her. After pelting him with objects she could easily pick up, she hit him several times in the face and head with the nunchucks and kept coming after him. Police noted the injuries the man sustained appeared to have been defensive wounds.

The man’s wife said she had no idea how the mess in the couple’s apartment was caused. She showed officers cuts on her abdomen that police believe were self-inflicted. The woman was taken to hospital and then to jail.

Sondra Earle-Kelly, 51, faces one count of aggravated domestic violence.

Under South Carolina law, aggravated domestic violence is domestic violence that is “of a high and aggravated nature.” It includes situations where serious injuries are sustained or, as in this case, a deadly weapon is used in the assault.

After Earle-Kelly left the hospital, she was booked into the York County Detention Center. She was later released on a $15,000 bond.
