Police: Shoplifter bit off part of Walmart employee’s finger

On Sunday afternoon, Carolynn Wright was in a Myrtle Beach Walmart when she was observed concealing items on her person. At around 2 p.m., the woman was confronted by two Walmart loss prevention officers as she was leaving the store.

According to police, the 23-year-old punched one of the female employees in the head, causing bleeding around her ear. She then bit off a portion of the other woman’s finger.

A customer at the scene attempted to call 911 when Wright allegedly grabbed her phone . When the woman tried to get her phone back, Wright grabbed her by her hair. The woman then punched the 23-year-old in order to free herself.

Wright then got into a gold van with a 71-year-old man behind the wheel. When police arrived, they noticed a group of people surrounding the vehicle. They ordered the woman out of the van but she resisted until they threatened to tase her.

The man told police Wright had gone into Walmart to “make a purchase” and when she came out she told him to “run” and “drive”. He pointed out to her he could not drive because a person was standing in front of the van.

Police recovered the portion of the employee’s finger and gave it to EMS workers who were on the scene. But the finger was not able to be reattached.

The value of the items Wright allegedly stole amounted to just over $40. They included condoms, lubricant, panties, a bra and other items of clothing.

Wright is facing several assault and battery charges as well as one count of shoplifting.

The Smoking Gun reports this is not Wright’s first brush with the law. In March she pleaded guilty to misdemeanor assault and battery. While working as a stripper at a Myrtle Beach gentleman’s club, she beat a co-worker about the head with a plastic high-heeled shoe. Wright was sentenced to six days in jail and had to pay fines and court costs in the amount of $173.90.

Wright is currently being held in custody on a $51,000 bond.
