The call came from the younger sister and when police arrived they found her older sister — who had arrived two months ago — on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds to her torso. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died.
The deceased’s name has not been released pending next-of-kin notification, nor has her age been revealed. Police have since arrested the younger sister and released her name. They have charged Hoa Hong Nguyen, 52, with second-degree murder.
The police have not said if she confessed to killing her older sibling. Homicide Det. Murray Barnes said they are seeking to learn more about the relationship the sisters had.
“We know a lot about the relationship between the sisters but not everything,” Det. Barnes told media. “So we’re interested in hearing from anyone who knows them and can maybe help us put together a clear and concise timeline.”
Det. Barnes added they “want to know what happened in the hours leading up to the murder as well as the months leading up to it.” It’s unclear how long the accused has been a resident of Canada.
Nguyen has a 24-year-old daughter who also lived in the apartment but she was out of town at the time of her Aunt’s stabbing. Police are seeking to inform her and inform relatives in Vietnam about the events.
A large kitchen knife was found beside the victim.
