Ibrahim brother shot in Sydney CBD

The 36-year-old victim, who is the younger brother of Kings Cross nightclub owner John Ibrahim and former bikie gang member Hassan Sam Ibrahim, reportedly suffered what were described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police officers noticed Michael Ibrahim standing on the pavement in Macquarie Street in central Sydney at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, in close proximity to the New South Wales State Parliament buildings.

According to police a number of shots were fired at Ibrahim, but just one bullet struck him on the shoulder. The shooting victim was taken to nearby Sydney Hospital where he is now being treated, with police sources adding that Ibrahim was in a satisfactory condition. Police established a crime scene at the site of the incident as officers scoured the area between Bridge and Bent streets for evidence.

Ibrahim was released from prison in August last year after having served a term of over seven years for the 2006 fatal knifing of Robin Nassour at the suburb of Chiswick in Sydney’s inner west. While incarcerated, Ibrahim and an associate were acquitted of conspiracy to murder charges in 2012.

During his parole hearing, Michael Ibrahim had told the board he was keen to move on with his life, that he wouldn’t break the law if released from prison and that he would abide by the “most stringent” parole conditions. He also said that being behind bars while his mother was being treated for cancer had been a “wake up call.”

The 36-year-old was granted parole, reportedly subject to a range of strict conditions, including electronic monitoring and keeping away from Kings Cross and other parts of Sydney.

Detective Superintendent Allan Sicard said police were on the lookout two possible gunmen, who were spotted in a white car. “[We] believe there was a white car, a late model car, possibly an Audi in the vicinity,” said Sicard. Detectives also interviewed a Taxis Combined cab driver, believed to have witnessed the incident.
