A Missouri highway patrol officer pulled over the man, Jeffrey Woo, 42, for an undisclosed traffic issue while he was traveling not far from Kansas City. Speaking with Mr. Woo, the officer became suspicious about his “deceptive behavior.” The officer asked if he could look into the car and Mr. Woo said that he could.
Stacked in the car’s cargo area, the officer found hundreds of chocolate bars. He examined them closely and ascertained that they also contained marijuana. Later tests confirmed that to be the case.
Mr. Woo, of Ladera Ranch, California, was arraigned on Wednesday in Lafayette County on charges of possession of a controlled substance with plans to distribute it. He has pleaded not guilty to the charge and his bail has been set at $100.000. He remains in jail and court records do not show whether he has hired an attorney or been assigned one.
Putting chocolate and marijuana together is not uncommon. One company that does is incredibles in Colorado, who have a range of chocolate bars infused with marijuana. They sell only to dispensaries in Colorado.
Both medical marijuana and recreational pot are legal in Colorado while in California only medical marijuana is legal, though possession of pot has been decriminalized.
Unfortunately for Mr. Woo, in Missouri, neither medical marijuana nor recreational marijuana are legal and while possession is a misdemeanor in the state, the sale of marijuana is a felony offence.
