Jian Ghomeshi back in court, faces new charges from new accusers

Jian Ghomeshi: Now six accusers

It was another media throng that attended at College Park as a very solemn looking Ghomeshi, clean-shaven and dressed in a dark suit, made his way into the courtroom with lawyer Marie Henein. The two were flanked by a security detail of seven police officers.

The 47-year-old had previously been charged with four counts of sexual assault and one charge of overcoming resistance by choking; he is now charged with seven counts of sexual assault and one charge of overcoming resistance by choking.

There is a publication ban on the identities of the women charging Ghomeshi but the actress and army reserve captain, Lucy DeCoutere is known to be one. Another accuser who has gone public is author and lawyer Reva Seth.

Next court date Feb. 4

As with his first court appearance last month questions were asked of him by the media as he made his way to and from court but he again remained tight-lipped. Henein briefly spoke, saying her client would be pleading not guilty to all charges laid against him. Accompanying Ghomeshi during the appearance was his mother; his bail conditions stipulate that he must reside at her home.

The next appearance date for Ghomeshi was set for Feb. 4 when the preliminary inquiry will begin and a date for trial will be set. His lawyer will appear for him on that date and it is unclear when he himself will next have to actually be in the courtroom during proceedings.
