Early morning shooting in Toronto’s Queen St. West area, 2 dead

Two men were found shot dead in the Queen St. West area of the city this morning and police are still gathering evidence about the violence at this time. Along with emergency services, officers were called to Lisgar St., just south of Queen St. West and west of Dufferin after reports of a shooting.

The call came in at around 7 a.m. Upon arrival at 36 Lisgar St. police found two males had been shot in a condo in the trendy area of the city. Paramedics said the two did not have vital signs and both were pronounced dead on the scene. Homicide detectives are on scene and one report said they are seeking one male; they have yet to release a description.

In another shooting in Toronto earlier in the morning, police and paramedics responded to a call on Sidney Belsey Crescent, a street in the Jane Street and Weston Road area of the city. There they found a 17-year-old male had been shot and wounded. Paramedics said he has been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

There is nothing to connect the separate shootings and police have not released any further information.

These shootings follow a brazen daylight shooting last Tuesday morning, shortly after 8 a.m., in which a gunman described as black and about 5′ 10″ or 5′ 11″ tall walked into the Moka Cafe and shot four persons.

Two of the victims, Maria Voci, 47, who worked at the cafe, and Christopher de Simone, 24, were found dead on scene and two others were taken to hospital where one remains with life-threatening injuries. One friend described Voci as a wonderful person devoted to her three sons.

Police continue to search for the gunman in that shooting and have not said who the target may have been. One of the wounded, Rocco Di Paola, was a candidate for mayor in last fall’s Toronto municipal election, finishing far back of the leaders.

There have been other shootings in Toronto and area of late. Thursday night in Scarborough a man was wounded in a shooting and last Sunday another Toronto shooting left a man injured. Police have not made an arrest in either of those shootings.
