War dog goes on final ride

The final ride for the dog, Sergeant Canvas, drew hundreds of people who wanted to pay their respects. Various motorcycle groups, as well as members of the Patriot Guard Riders, organized the final ride for Sergeant Canvas.

Marine Lance Corporal Russ Moseley earned a Purple Heart after losing his leg while serving in Afghanistan. He said that Canvas tried to save him from the bomb blast that caused him to lose his leg. However, he ended up experiencing another loss when he had to say goodbye to the nine-year-old black lab.

Sergeant Canvas suffered an injury while on the battlefront, but she went on to serve two more combat tours with the Marines, and then came home to be reunited with Moseley.

A few weeks ago, Moseley made the difficult decision to put her down because she was no longer able to walk. She developed arthritis, which led to a severe spinal condition. He said that it was hard to let her go because they have been through a lot.

Moseley said that everything happened really fast. He said she was very chipper and very happy, but then she started to be down all the time. He continued to say that one night they went to sleep and when they woke up, Canvas could barely lift her rear end.
